ABOUT

JONATHAN ALTSCHUL, ESQ.

Founding Attorney

A leading dealmaker in the music, digital media, live entertainment, and film arenas, Jonathan Altschul represents high-profile talent and corporate entertainment clients negotiating complex and sensitive legal matters.

Entertainment law is in Jonathan's DNA. In his almost 20 years' experience, Jonathan has navigated his clients through innovations in the industry - from streaming to the creator economy - and prides himself on his aggressive negotiation and discrete representation of clients in matters including:

  • the sale of the publishing and recording catalog of a legendary musical group
  • the acquisition of publishing catalogs, including songwriters' shares
  • brand agreements on behalf of Streamy Award-winning creators and multimillion-subscriber channels
  • a rights clearance agreement in connection with one of the  most-streamed videos of all time
  • a Super Bowl halftime show agreement for a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame artist
  • a settlement agreement between another Rock & Roll Hall of Fame artist and their iconic former group
  • numerous highly-successful comedy tour agreements
  • an agreement for an artist to make their U.S. debut on the Coachella main stage
  • employment and severance agreements for senior-level industry executives

His extensive legal experience representing artists, creators, management companies, streaming platforms, and record labels, among others, and his pre-legal-career industry experience, including working in the Music & Talent department at MTV, uniquely positions him to understand the legal and business needs of his clients.

Jonathan has been recognized as a top entertainment lawyer and industry leader by publications such as Variety and Billboard, and sits on the USC Institute on Entertainment Law and Business' Syllabus Committee.
